9th December: Wednesday’s European Accumulator – 6/1

With the Champions League group stages drawing to a close in midweek, we are offered a stacked Wednesday night from across Europe. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a midweek acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for in midweek.

Wednesday 9th December

BST 19:45 Norwich City vs Nottingham Forest

Starting with the hosts, managing to mount a dramatic late comeback at home against Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend, Norwich eventually left Carrow Road with a 2-1 win to show for their troubles. While Daniel Farke s men might still be looking to fully bounce back from their shock 3-1 defeat away at Championship returners Luton last week, fans around East Anglia still find their side holding a one-point buffer at the top of the table. Still tipped by many across England s second-tier as a leading contender to book an immediate Premier League return this season, the Yellows have lost just one of their last 13 Championship matchups, a run that stems back to October 3rd. Hoping to extend their stay at the top of the table in midweek, Farke will be most impressed by his side s continued success on home soil. Including that late victory against the Owls last time out, Wednesday s hosts are unbeaten in their last six straight matchups at Carrow Road, winning four of those appearances. With Nottingham Forest in the midst of a nightmare run of form, Norwich will be confident of cashing in and landing back-to-back wins in midweek. Hit with a 2-0 defeat against Reading over the weekend, new boss Chris Hughton has seen his squad freefall down the Championship table. Managing to collect just a single point over their last five straight contests and failing to find the net in any of those appearances, we re backing a routine home win on Wednesday night.

Tip: Norwich City win @ 7/10

20:00 Red Bull Salzburg vs Atletico Madrid

Managing to pick up what turned out to be a routine 2-0 victory at home against Real Valladolid over the weekend, the mood in Atletico Madrid s camp should be at a real high. Continuing to capitalise on Barcelona and Real Madrid s continued issues since opening the 2020/2021 campaign, Diego Simeone s men have played their way to the top of the La Liga table and are seen as a genuine title contender this season. Now enjoying a 10-match unbeaten run across all formats, a run that stems back to October 21st, Los Colchoneros will be hoping for a Champions League boost in midweek. Watching Bayern Munich snatch a late point from the penalty spot in the Spanish capital last week, Atletico have had to settle for a stalemate in their last three European appearances on the spin. However, managing to have the likes of Luis Suarez back in their ranks, Simeone s side still sit in pole position to book their spot in the knockout stage of this year s tournament once again in midweek. Picking up that dramatic 3-2 win when they last faced off against Wednesday s hosts back in October, Atletico will be confident of extending on their recent purple patch. On the flip side, while Red Bull Salzburg might have managed to land back-to-back wins heading into December, they slumped back to losing ways in shock fashion over the weekend. Coming under more scrutiny for a stunning 1-0 defeat against Admira last time out, it should also be noted that the midweek hosts have managed to win just a pair of their last seven matchups across all competitions.

Tip: Atletico Madrid win @ 11/10

20:00 Bayern Munich vs Lokomotiv Moscow

Starting with Wednesday s hosts, managing to come from behind and grabbing a point off of RB Leipzig thanks to an action-packed 3-3 draw over the weekend, Bayern Munich have managed to extend their stay at the top of the Bundesliga table. Already seen by many across Europe as a leading pick to reclaim their Champions League crown this season, the German giants have secured their spot in the knockout stage of this year s tournament with time to spare. Claiming a point on their travels away at Atletico Madrid last week, despite making a string of changes to their squad, Head Coach Hans-Dieter Flick will be confident of his side signing off their Group A campaign with three points on home soil. While they might have been disappointed to have played out back-to-back stalemates across all formats, Bayern have continued on their usual rampant fashion since opening the 2020/2021 season. Losing just a single matchup across all formats so far this year, it should also be highlighted that Wednesday s hosts are unbeaten at the Allianz Arena since November 2019. With Thomas Muller bagging three goals in his back-to-back appearances, including a brace against Leipzig over the weekend, Bayern should be relishing Lokomotiv Moscow s arrival. While the Russian outfit might have secured a 3-1 win against Rubin Kazan last time out, that doesn t cover what has been a lackluster run of form. Sat outside the European spots in the Russian Premier League and remarkably managing to win just one of their last 11 contests, we re backing a routine home victory in midweek.
